About the Team

The Avigilon Alta Video team develops the mission-critical infrastructure that powers advanced video management systems (VMS). The team is evolving its platform to support deep integration across Motorola Solutions’ product portfolio, leveraging cutting-edge technologies including video analytics, AI, machine learning, and cloud-based security solutions.

Based in Edinburgh, the team follows a flexible hybrid working model with approximately two days per week in the office.

Role Overview

Motorola Solutions is seeking a talented Test Automation Engineer to join its Edinburgh team. This role is ideal for someone with strong automation testing skills, API and browser automation experience, and expertise in mobile application testing for iOS and Android platforms.

You will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of solutions that support public safety, enterprise security, and mission-critical operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites across UI, API, backend, and mobile platforms.
• Ensure the quality and reliability of mission-critical software solutions.
• Support continuous quality benchmarks for real-time systems and AI-driven features.
• Build and maintain automated tests using existing frameworks such as TypeScript and Playwright.
• Develop and execute automated testing for iOS and Android applications.
• Integrate mobile automation with emulators, simulators, and real-device testing environments.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to enable frequent, high-quality software releases.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve test failures and system issues.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to improve testing strategies and software quality.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience developing, executing, and maintaining automated test scripts.
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and quality assurance practices.
• Experience with mobile testing tools such as Appium, XCUITest, or Espresso.
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar programming languages.
• Experience testing both UI and API layers of applications.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and automated deployment pipelines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid and distributed team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with TypeScript and Playwright.
• Experience with Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools.
• Knowledge of performance and soak testing methodologies.
• Exposure to video management systems, streaming technologies, or media platforms.
• Experience with hardware automation.
• Understanding of application state management patterns such as Redux, Vuex, or Pinia.
• Experience with REST APIs, WebSockets, and modern web technologies.
• Strong knowledge of software design principles, algorithms, and data structures.
